Much has been said about the state of public education, and education in general, in the media in recent years.  Undoubtedly, our children live in uncertain economic and political times and our schools continue to be the prism through which our future is viewed, and rightly so.  For within our walls is tomorrow. 

In the year 1832, Abraham (not yet President) Lincoln, in his first political announcement stated that, "upon the subject of education, not presuming to dictate any plan or system respecting it, I can only say that I view it as the most important subject which we as a people can be engaged in."

Each generation is faced with its own challenges and obstacles, and it is our mission at BCMS to provide our students with the tools and skills necessary to meet the challenges unique to their generation.   This serves as the defining reason that we must unswervingly commit to their education and personal development.

In the ACT report entitled, "The Forgotten Middle," the importance of a child's education during the middle school years was emphasized.  The report found that, “the level of academic achievement that students attain by eighth grade has a larger impact on their college and career readiness by the time they graduate from high school than anything that happens academically in high school.”  There are equally critical statements throughout the report defining the importance of this time, NOW, in the lives of our children.  (To view the executive report summary, please refer to the document found under the "pageDocs" link on this page.)

The middle school has the extraordinary responsibility of insuring that its students thrive academically, socially, emotionally and behaviorally as they transition from elementary expectations to the demands of high school.  Even as our students begin to explore the freedoms that come with becoming young adults, and the responsibilities associated with those freedoms, middle school age children continue to require considerable structure and guidance.  Your partnership, participation and support in this "middle school" process is valued and appreciated.  At BCMS, this "process" is also known as "The Three R's."

We resolve that every member of our school family, from the youngest student to the oldest teacher, exhibit the vitality and purpose required to fulfill our mission, "to teach students responsibility and cooperation while increasing their knowledge and boosting their self-esteem by providing an expanded, well-rounded educational program."  You expect it, our global community needs it, and our children deserve it.
